Sgabillo is the Zanotta's seat designed by Max Bill in 1950. The stool is the direct descendant of the Ulmer one, the original project that Max Bill with Hans Gugelot made for the new College of Ulm. Compared with the original version, Sgabillo is made of birch wood or MDF rather of beech. The project came out from the need to provide students of the new design college, founded by Bill himself in Ulm, Germany, a seat that could be stable, inexpensive, and portable. From that came out the idea for this essencial, easily reproducible piece of furnishing, that students could carry around during lessons. The stool can be used as a side or bedside table, being versatile and adaptable in every context. Sgabillo is available in two versions: in natural vernished birch or in embossed vernished MDF.
